The
Greek influence went on in the Byzantine period; on the contrary the
Arabian rule onlyslightly rooted in this territory.
However,
the most considerable evidences, which we can admire still today,
are those of the late Baroque period; in fact, the hearthquake of
1693 that struck the South-East of Sicily has spread the Valley with
scenographical squares surrounded by churches and palaces examples
of an incoparable and deeply rooted style in the matter (the
white-amber coloured calcareous stone) and in the history of these
places.
Now, the Noto Valley, together with the artistical evidences which
mark it, (many sites among them there is also Palazzolo Acreide have
been proclaimed humanity’s heritage by UNESCO) can also boast a
great aenogastronomical culture that has ist most well-known and
best example in the great success of the “Nero d”Avola”. |
