I
t was the ancient Greek population who boosted the local wine-growing and today, the Eloro area, whit its mean temperatures over 17° and summer peaks around 42°, with its vineyards grown with gobelet training system, with a production of 70-80 q. per Ha, is the cradle of the biggest wine made from grapes nero d'Avola: Eloro Doc Nero d'Avola.

30 kilometers north of Eloro rises another important and ancient Greek colony: the town AKRAI (todey known as Palazzolo Acreide) where the archaeological excavation, besides the beautiful Greek Theatre, the acropolises and historical interst, have uncovered an ancient millstone called "Palmento di ACREMONTE", testifying that the hill climate (about 750 mt above sea-level) was extremely suitable for working grapes and preserving wine.
